New Delhi: The UK immigration system went fully digital yesterday with eVisas replacing physical visa stickers pasted in passports.
Applicants will need to still visit a visa application center for biometric enrollment and identity verification. But the passport will be returned the same day.
With eVisa, the applicant will visit the center only once to confirm their identity.
The eVisa will confirm the visa type, settlement status and permissions to work and study.
This status will be accessible through a UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) online account and is digitally linked to the applicant’s passport.
Those with a valid sticker physical visa need not apply again for eVisas but need to create a UKVI account and link it to the passport.
The biggest advantage is applicants can retain their passport while applying for the UK eVisa and apply for the visa for another country.
