Pune: The Maharashtra government has appointed senior IAS Dr. Vijay Suryawanshi as the new Municipal Commissioner of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC).Â
Dr. Suryawanshi, who is presently serving as the Divisional Commissioner of the Konkan Division, will succeed IAS Shravan Hardikar in the new role.
Dr. Suryawanshi is a 2006-batch officer of the Maharashtra cadre. He has held several key administrative positions in the state government, including the additional metropolitan commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and municipal commissioner of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation. He has also previously served as District Collector of the Raigad and Gondia districts.
PCMC, one of the largest civic bodies in Maharashtra, governs the rapidly expanding industrial township adjoining Pune. Dr. Suryawanshi’s appointment as commissioner comes at a time when the civic body is overseeing several major infrastructure, urban development, and civic service projects.
