Kolkata: Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar has been appointed as chairperson of the Board of Governors at IIM Calcutta.
The former UGC chief has been appointed for a four-year term and brings with him immense experience in governance and administration in higher education institutions.
The Board of Governors is responsible for strategic direction, policy formulation and financial approvals.
The Board also ensures academic excellence and operational autonomy.
It acts as the principal executive body of each IIM and is responsible for appointing search panels for new directors, taking policy decisions and approving annual budgets and determining fees.
Kumar has previously served as JNU VC and professor at IIT Delhi. He has been recently awarded the Padma Shri for his distinguished contribution to education.
