Kolkata: R. N. Ravi has been appointed as the new Governor of West Bengal as part of a recent gubernatorial reshuffle carried out by President Droupadi Murmu.
Ravi previously served as the Governor of Tamil Nadu and will now succeed Dr. C. V. Ananda Bose, who resigned from the post on Thursday. The reshuffle marks another significant change in the leadership of the Raj Bhavan in West Bengal.
Ravi assumed office as the Governor of Tamil Nadu on September 18, 2021. Following his transfer, the current Governor of Kerala, R. V. Arlekar, will take charge of the Tamil Nadu governorship as an additional responsibility.
Born in April 1952 in Bihar, Ravi is a Kerala-cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer with extensive experience in security and intelligence matters. Over the years, he has held several key positions in the government. In 2014, Ravi was appointed Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee. He later became the Deputy National Security Advisor in October 2018.
Between 2014 and his appointment as Tamil Nadu Governor, Ravi also served as the government’s interlocutor for peace talks between the Centre and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland.
