Guwahati, September 8 (APAC Media): The Assam government has laid the foundation stones for infrastructure development projects worth Rs 110 crore at Gauhati University, marking the first phase of its broader Rs 250 crore infrastructure commitment to the institution.
Vice President of India C. P. Radhakrishnan, Assam Governor and Gauhati University Chancellor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the foundation-laying ceremony at the university on September 7.
Gauhati University to Get Major Infrastructure Upgrade
The first phase includes several key academic, residential and student-focused facilities. These include a new Academic Building, Boys’ Hostel, Modern Mess Building and International Students’ Hostel, along with the renovation of the K.K. Handique Library-Seminar Hall and upgradation of the Birinchi Kumar Barua Auditorium.
The phase also includes residential quarters for D-grade staff, strengthening the university’s supporting infrastructure.
The Rs 110 crore projects form part of the Assam government’s Rs 250 crore infrastructure commitment to Gauhati University and are expected to significantly strengthen facilities for students, faculty and the wider university community.
Vice President Unveils New Publications
During his visit, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan unveiled the fifth revised and expanded edition of “Chandrakanta Abhidhan” and the book “Bhupen Hazarika: Hundred Years of a Wandering Song.”
The programme also featured a public meeting involving students, faculty members and leading citizens of Gauhati University, providing a platform to discuss the university’s academic and developmental priorities.
The Vice President’s two-day visit to Assam concluded on September 7. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma saw him off at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati at the conclusion of his visit.
