Shimla: As part of the ongoing gubernatorial reshuffle, Kavinder Gupta, the outgoing Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, has been appointed the new Governor of Himachal Pradesh.Â
Gupta succeeds Shiv Pratap Shukla, who has now been appointed the Governor of Telangana.
The changes come as part of a broader administrative reshuffle aimed at reassigning governors across several states and Union Territories.
About Kavinder Gupta
Kavinder Gupta was sworn in as the third Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh after being appointed to the post in July last year. However, he resigned from the position on Thursday after serving for less than nine months.
Gupta has held several important positions in both government and party roles during his political career. In 2018, he served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir during the coalition government between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the People’s Democratic Party.
He has remained an influential political figure from the region and has held key responsibilities within the party over the years.
About Shiv Pratap Shukla
Shiv Pratap Shukla is a veteran leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party from Uttar Pradesh. He served as the Minister of State for Finance in the government led by Narendra Modi from 2017 to 2019.
He has served as the Governor of Himachal Pradesh since 2023.
Shukla was also a member of the Rajya Sabha representing Uttar Pradesh. Before entering the Upper House, he served multiple terms as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
