Kohima: President Droupadi Murmu has appointed former Bihar Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav as the new Governor of Nagaland.Â
The appointment comes as part of the latest round of gubernatorial changes announced by the Centre.
Yadav is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and has long been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. Most recently, he served as the 17th Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 2024 to 2025.
Yadav began his political journey with the RSS in 1969. He later became active in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad in 1971, marking the start of his involvement in public life.
His entry into electoral politics came in 1978 when he was elected as a councillor in the Patna Municipal Corporation. In 1982, he was elected Deputy Mayor of Patna, further strengthening his position in local politics.
Yadav has had a long legislative career and is a seven-time Member of the Legislative Assembly, representing the Patna Sahib (earlier known as Patna East) since 1995. Between 1998 and 2003, he also served as the president of the BJP’s Bihar unit.
Over the years, he has held several important ministerial positions in the Government of Bihar, including Road Construction Minister, Health and Family Welfare Minister, and Tourism Minister under governments led by Nitish Kumar.
He also served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly from 2013 to 2015 before becoming Speaker in February 2024.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, while congratulating Yadav on his appointment, wrote on X, “On behalf of the people of Nagaland, I congratulate Shri Nand Kishore Yadav Ji on his appointment as the Governor of Nagaland.
