New Delhi, May 1 (APAC Media): Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday announced the launch of India’s first Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) barrier-less tolling system at the Chorayasi Toll Plaza on the Surat–Bharuch stretch of NH-48 in Gujarat, according to an official release.
The new tolling system allows vehicles to pass through toll plazas without any halting. This enables seamless toll collection through technologies such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and FASTag.

However, the rollout of the MLFF system marks an important step towards digitising India’s toll collection framework and modernising highway infrastructure in line with global standards.
The technology is expected to ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, improve fuel efficiency, cut vehicular emissions, and minimise manual intervention at toll plazas.
“Barrier-less tolling will enhance ‘Ease of Living’ for citizens while strengthening ‘Ease of Doing Business’ by enabling faster and more efficient movement of goods and logistics.” Gadkari added.
He remarked that the initiative reflects the government’s focus on building technology-driven highway infrastructure that is modern, transparent, and overall efficient.
The government aims to roll out the MLFF tolling system across the national highway network by the end of 2026, eliminating the need for vehicles to halt at toll plazas across the country.
