New Delhi: The Noida International Airport in Jewar is in its final stages of completion, with its formal inauguration scheduled for March 28, 2026, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lead the opening of the ambitious greenfield aviation project in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddha Nagar district.
Originally proposed in 2001, the airport project faced multiple delays due to land acquisition challenges and local protests before receiving formal approval in 2015. With the completion of Phase 1, the airport is now ready to begin its operational journey.
The first phase features a 3,900-meter runway and a passenger terminal equipped with 10 aerobridges, designed to handle up to 12 million passengers annually. Domestic carriers including IndiGo, Akasa Air, and Air India Express are expected to commence services shortly after the inauguration.
“The flight operations typically begin within 45 days to two months after the issuance of an aerodrome licence. The airport has already secured its certification from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, indicating that commercial services could start soon,” Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu said.
Developed by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, the project is being executed under a Public-Private Partnership model at an estimated cost exceeding Rs 4,500 crore.
Strategically located to serve the National Capital Region, the airport is expected to ease congestion at Indira Gandhi International Airport while boosting regional economic growth and job creation.
Upon full completion, the airport aims to handle up to 100 million passengers annually by 2050, aligning with India’s long-term vision of expanding aviation infrastructure and enhancing connectivity nationwide.
