Hyderabad: Telangana recorded its highest-ever peak electricity demand of 18,139 MW at 11:01 am on Tuesday, with state power utilities meeting the load without any disruption. The milestone marks the highest demand in the state’s history.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka congratulated senior officials and staff of the power utilities for ensuring uninterrupted supply during the record surge. He said the achievement reflects the state’s economic momentum, operational efficiency and coordinated planning.
With this peak, Telangana’s demand is nearing levels seen in larger states such as Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, and has surpassed demand in states including Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
Power demand has steadily risen over the past three years, from 15,623 MW in 2023-24 to 17,162 MW in 2024-25, before touching the new high this week. Officials attributed the growth to expansion across IT, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and irrigation.
The Deputy CM said Telangana is prepared to handle higher summer demand with planning, a strong grid network and coordinated operations, reaffirming the government’s commitment to reliable power supply.
