Noida, Apr 2 (APAC Media): The Indian stock market will remain closed on Friday, in observance of the Good Friday holiday. This closure will result in a shortened trading week, affecting investors and traders who had planned activities around the week’s sessions.
Good Friday is a significant Christian observance, and the exchanges follow the holiday schedule in line with global market practices.
Both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) have officially listed Good Friday as a non‑trading day in their holiday calendars.
As a result, trading and settlement activities across equity, derivatives, currency, and securities lending segments will be suspended, with normal operations set to resume on the following trading day.
This comes shortly after Shri Mahavir Jayanti, observed on March 31, which already shortened the week’s trading schedule. With Good Friday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, the exchanges’ closure aligns with global markets that observe the holiday, further compressing trading to just three active sessions before the weekend.
However, India’s leading commodity and derivatives exchanges, including the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) and the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), will also remain closed on Good Friday. Both morning and evening trading sessions will be suspended in accordance with the holiday schedule.
Trading on Indian exchanges is set to resume on Monday, April 6, 2026, and investors are advised to consider the extended holiday break when planning orders, settlements, and portfolio strategies.
The 2026 stock market calendar features a total of 16 holidays, including other significant national and religious observances later in the year, such as Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Bakri Id, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Christmas.
