Dehradun, May 14 (APAC Media): The Uttarakhand Cabinet led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday approved 19 important proposals during a cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat.
The decisions include a 50% reduction in the vehicle fleets of the Chief Minister and ministers, introduction of a weekly “No Vehicle Day”, promotion of work-from-home practices, and mandatory adoption of electric vehicles among other initiatives.
Weekly ‘No Vehicle Day’ Introduced
One of the major announcements made by the Cabinet was the introduction of a weekly “No Vehicle Day” in government functioning.
Under the initiative:
- Government officials will be encouraged to work from home wherever possible
- Video conferencing will be preferred over physical meetings
- Citizens will be encouraged to use public transport
Ministers’ Vehicle Fleets to Be Reduced
The Cabinet also approved a 50% reduction in the size of vehicle convoys used by the Chief Minister and ministers.
The decision drew attention after Chief Minister Dhami arrived at the Secretariat with a convoy of only five vehicles, compared to the earlier practice of using eight to ten vehicles.
Uttarakhand Government to Promote EVs
To reduce dependence on conventional fuels, the Cabinet approved several measures to encourage electric vehicle adoption across the state.
Key EV Decisions:
- At least 50% of future government vehicle purchases will be electric vehicles
- A large network of EV charging stations will be developed across Uttarakhand
Energy Conservation Measures Expanded
The government also approved additional energy-saving measures, including:
- Limited use of air conditioners in government and private buildings
- Greater use of virtual meetings and digital communication
- Encouragement for private institutions to adopt work-from-home systems where possible
Focus on Tourism and Char Dham Yatra
The Cabinet also reviewed preparations related to traffic management during the Char Dham Yatra, pilgrim safety measures, and infrastructure planning for the upcoming Kumbh Mela.
Officials said the Dhami government views these reforms as long-term measures aimed at improving administrative efficiency, promoting environmental sustainability and preparing the state for future energy challenges.
