Patna, June 16 (APAC Media): The Bihar government has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform itself into a leading destination for Information Technology (IT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), with the state government setting a target of attracting Rs 5 lakh crore investment in the sector.
Announcing the roadmap during a press conference at the Bhagalpur Circuit House, Urban Development, Housing and IT Minister Nitish Mishra said the government has prepared a long-term strategy aimed at positioning Bihar among India’s emerging technology hubs.
Bihar Focuses on IT Investment
The minister said the state’s vision is not only to attract large-scale investments but also to maximise employment opportunities through technology-driven growth.
He emphasized that the government’s priority is to ensure that investments in the IT sector translate into meaningful employment and economic development.
Highlighting recent developments in the technology sector, Mishra said a modern data centre has been completed in Patna and is expected to be inaugurated shortly.
He also announced that laptop manufacturing has commenced in Bihar, marking a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen its technology and electronics manufacturing capabilities.
The minister said the government is studying successful IT policies implemented by other states to develop a competitive and investor-friendly framework for Bihar.
Bihar Expands AI and Startup Ecosystem
Referring to the recently organised AI Summit, Mishra said Bihar is actively engaging with professionals of Bihar origin who are working in artificial intelligence and advanced technology sectors across the world.
The state government has also invited engineering students to contribute innovative ideas and participate in strengthening the startup ecosystem.
According to the minister, these efforts form part of Bihar’s broader Global AI Mission aimed at increasing the state’s presence in emerging technologies and innovation-driven industries.
Administrative Reforms
The minister also announced administrative reforms for urban local bodies, stating that a new transfer policy is being prepared for municipal employees.
He noted that several employees remain posted in the same urban local body throughout their careers, which can impact transparency and administrative efficiency.
The proposed policy aims to introduce a more structured and transparent transfer mechanism across municipal institutions.
As the minister in charge of Bhagalpur district, Mishra said a detailed review of ongoing development projects will be undertaken.
The review will focus on key civic infrastructure projects, including water supply systems, drainage networks, sewage treatment plants (STPs), electric crematorium facilities and projects being executed by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUDCO).
