Kolkata, June 16 (APAC Media): West Bengal has received a major boost for rural development, with the Centre allocating ₹8,500 crore under the VB-G RAM G (Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission-Gramin) scheme.
In addition, ₹2,400 crore has been approved for rural roads, of which ₹1,000 crore has already been released.

The announcement was made on Monday during the launch of the Jan Kalyan Shivir programme in Nandigram.
The VB-G RAM G scheme has replaced the earlier rural employment programme and aims to provide up to 125 days of guaranteed work every year to rural families.
The allocation is expected to strengthen livelihoods, boost incomes, and support development activities across villages.
Alongside employment generation, the Centre’s approval of ₹2,400 crore for road infrastructure is expected to improve connectivity and support economic activity in rural areas.
A major public outreach exercise has also been launched across the state. Around 1,100 Jan Kalyan Shivirs are being organised from June 15 to June 17 to help citizens access welfare benefits and government services.
Officials said people can visit the camps between 10 am and 5 pm to apply for benefits and seek information on various schemes.
The camps are providing access to 54 welfare programmes, including Ayushman Bharat, Annapurna Yojana, rural livelihood schemes, food security initiatives, and social welfare programmes.
The government has also stressed the importance of ensuring that benefits reach genuine beneficiaries and that transparency is maintained in welfare delivery.
The first day of the programme witnessed a strong public response, with large numbers of people visiting the camps.
The latest allocations are expected to give a significant push to rural employment, infrastructure development, and welfare delivery across West Bengal.
