New Delhi, June 16 (APAC Media): The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Government e Marketplace (GeM), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, to strengthen multilingual digital capabilities across India’s public procurement ecosystem.
About the Partnership
The partnership has been launched under “BHASHINI for Seva/Sanchalan – A BHASHINI Sahayogi Program” and aims to make public procurement more inclusive and accessible through the BHASHINI Platform, India’s National Language Digital Public Infrastructure.
The collaboration will promote multilingual access, multilingual governance, and multilingual service delivery across GeM’s digital platforms. The initiative is expected to help users access procurement-related information and services in their preferred languages while advancing voice-first language technology infrastructure and generative AI solutions.
Focus on AI-Driven Language Technologies
As part of the collaboration, GeM and the BHASHINI team will jointly work on the co-creation, integration, and deployment of multilingual digital public resources. The initiative will include programs such as BHASHINI Udyat, Mitra, Appmitra, Sahyogi, and Pravakta.
The partnership will support translation API integration, domain-specific language model development, multilingual glossary creation, voice-enabled technologies, reference applications, voice bots, and linguistic dataset development. These efforts aim to strengthen multilingual capabilities across the GeM ecosystem and support seamless interaction in 22 officially recognised Indian languages and several other Indian languages.
The collaboration is also expected to reduce language barriers in procurement services, seller onboarding, platform navigation, stakeholder communication, and overall engagement with the GeM platform.
The partnership reinforces BHASHINI’s role in building inclusive and AI-driven digital governance while supporting GeM’s vision of a transparent, efficient, and accessible public procurement ecosystem.
