New Delhi, October 13 (APAC Media): The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) enabled real-time English-Spanish translation at the National Centre for Good Governance’s (NCGG) Capacity Building Programme on Urban Service Delivery for Civil Servants in Mussoorie. The initiative used AI-powered speech translation to support communication among civil servants from multiple countries.
AI-Powered Translation Enables Cross-Border Communication
The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD), under the Digital India Corporation (DIC), Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), deployed its Shrutlekh platform at the NCGG’s Capacity Building Programme for Civil Servants of Multiple Countries.
Sponsored by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the programme is organised by NCGG under the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG), as part of India’s international capacity-building efforts under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme.
The programme brings together civil servants and public-sector representatives from Peru, Cambodia, Nigeria, Kenya, Palestine, Lebanon, The Gambia, Ecuador and Spain to exchange experiences and best practices in governance and urban service delivery.
Shrutlekh Facilitates Real-Time English-Spanish Translation
During the programme’s ice-breaking session, Shrutlekh enabled two-way translation between English and Spanish, helping delegates communicate and participate more effectively despite language differences.
The BHASHINI team assisted participants in using the platform and introduced them to its broader multilingual AI ecosystem. Delegates were also encouraged to explore the BHASHINI mobile application and its features for overcoming language barriers in everyday communication and digital interactions.
Advancing Voice-First Multilingual AI
The deployment highlights BHASHINI’s Voice-First Multilingual AI approach, which aims to make digital communication and services more accessible through speech-based language technology.
Shrutlekh is intended to remain available throughout the programme until October 23, subject to operational requirements.
The initiative demonstrates how AI-powered language solutions can support inclusive participation, strengthen cross-cultural engagement, and facilitate knowledge exchange in international public-sector capacity-building programmes, while showcasing India’s growing capabilities in multilingual digital technology.
