New Delhi/Chandigarh, June 16 (APAC Media): The Centre has assigned key additional responsibilities to senior IAS officers Anil Malik and Syed Abid Rashid Shah.
The move has been taken to ensure smooth functioning of important departments during the absence of incumbent officers.
IAS Anil Malik Gets Tribal Affairs Ministry Charge
IAS Anil Malik, 1991 batch is among the senior-most officers of the Haryana cadre and is currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
The ministry handles major welfare schemes focused on women, children, nutrition, and social protection.
He has been given the additional charge of Secretary, Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
The responsibility will remain in effect from June 16 to July 1, 2026, during the leave period of IAS Ranjana Chopra (1994: Odisha cadre), who currently heads the ministry.
Malik will oversee key tribal welfare areas including development schemes for Scheduled Tribes, education programmes, livelihood support, and welfare initiatives.
Officials said the arrangement will ensure continuity of ongoing programmes and smooth administrative functioning.
IAS Syed Abid Rashid Shah Gets Health Department Charge
In another order, IAS Syed Abid Rashid Shah has been assigned the additional charge of the Health and Medical Education Department in Chandigarh Administration.
The charge has been given on an interim basis until the return of the regular officer.
Shah is a 2012-batch AGMUT cadre officer, originally from Jammu and Kashmir.
He is currently serving as Secretary, Tourism and Culture Department, Chandigarh Administration, and Managing Director of CITCO.
He will now also supervise public health administration, hospitals, medical education institutions, and healthcare services in the Union Territory.
Focus on Administrative Continuity
The Centre said these temporary arrangements are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted governance.
Both officers will continue with their existing responsibilities along with the additional charge.
The move reflects the government’s approach of assigning experienced officers multiple responsibilities to maintain efficiency in key departments.
