The motorcycle appears to share much of its mechanical package with the Royal Enfield Scram 440, but Royal Enfield has made changes to the chassis and cycle parts to give it a more adventure-oriented setup.
Himalayan 440 Engine And Platform
The Himalayan 440 is expected to use Royal Enfield’s 443cc LS440 single-cylinder engine. The same engine powers the Scram 440, where it produces 25.4 hp and 34 Nm of torque.
Unlike the Himalayan 450, the upcoming model is expected to follow a simpler mechanical approach. The focus appears to be on adapting the existing 440 platform rather than introducing a significantly different engine.
21-Inch Front Wheel
One of the clearest differences is the wheel setup. The showroom motorcycle gets a 21-inch wire-spoke front wheel, while the Scram 440 uses a 19-inch front wheel. The rear is expected to remain a 17-inch unit.
The larger front wheel should make the Himalayan 440 better suited to uneven roads and light off-road riding. The motorcycle also appears to use tubed tyres, although final specifications could vary by variant.
Suspension And Instrument Cluster
The Himalayan 440 is also expected to receive a more off-road-focused suspension setup than the Scram 440. Exact suspension travel figures have not yet been officially confirmed.
The motorcycle seen at the dealership uses a twin-pod instrument cluster instead of the four-pod unit seen on the Himalayan 411. The setup appears closer to the Scram 440, with a Tripper navigation pod also expected on some variants.
Simpler Alternative To Himalayan 450
The upcoming motorcycle could sit below the Himalayan 450 in Royal Enfield’s adventure bike range. Its positioning would give buyers an option with the Himalayan name, a 21-inch front wheel and the LS440 engine without moving to the larger and more feature-heavy Himalayan 450.
Pricing will be important to this positioning. Royal Enfield is expected to reveal the Himalayan 440’s price, variants and final specifications at the September 4 launch.
For now, the dealership sighting points to a motorcycle that combines the Scram 440’s powertrain with a more traditional adventure-bike wheel and suspension setup.
