Noida, June 6 (APAC Media): India’s economy grew 7.7 per cent in real terms in 2025-26, accelerating from 7.1 per cent in the previous financial year, driven by robust economic activity in the March quarter, according to provisional GDP estimates released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Friday.
The annual GDP estimates have been revised following the availability of fourth-quarter data, replacing the Second Advance Estimates issued in February that were compiled using information up to the third quarter of FY26.
Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP), measured at constant 2022-23 prices, is estimated at ₹323.12 lakh crore in FY26, compared with the First Revised Estimate of ₹299.89 lakh crore in FY25.

Nominal GDP at current prices is estimated at ₹346.36 lakh crore, reflecting a growth of 8.9 per cent over the previous year’s level of ₹318.07 lakh crore.

“The provisional estimates indicate sustained momentum in economic activity during FY26, supported by broad-based growth across sectors,” a senior government official said.
For the fourth quarter, real GDP is estimated at ₹87.77 lakh crore against ₹81.40 lakh crore in the corresponding period of FY25, registering a growth rate of 7.8 per cent. Nominal GDP during the quarter rose 9.1 per cent to ₹94.65 lakh crore from ₹86.75 lakh crore a year earlier.

Gross Value Added (GVA), which measures economic output excluding net taxes, also showed strong growth.
Real GVA for FY26 is estimated at ₹294.91 lakh crore, up 7.9 per cent from ₹273.36 lakh crore in FY25. Nominal GVA increased 9.1 per cent to ₹314.87 lakh crore.
In the March quarter, real GVA rose 7.9 per cent year-on-year to ₹80.18 lakh crore, while nominal GVA grew 9.9 per cent to ₹86.46 lakh crore.
MoSPI said the quarterly GDP estimates under the new national account series with base year 2022-23 broadly follow the methodology and standards prescribed in the International Monetary Fund’s 2017 Quarterly National Accounts Manual.
“The new series incorporates improved data sources, revised methodologies and updated deflation practices to strengthen the quality and reliability of national account estimates,” an official said.
The ministry added that future national accounts releases will incorporate the revised Index of Industrial Production (IIP) and Wholesale Price Index/Producer Price Index (WPI/PPI) series with base year 2022–23.
Updated GDP estimates are scheduled to be released along with Q1 FY27 data on August 31, 2026.
