New Delhi, June 1 (APAC Media): Several new regulations aimed at enhancing security, improving transparency, and streamlining essential services have come into effect from 1st June 2026. The changes will impact millions of users of UPI payment platforms, banking services, and LPG connections across the country.
Major changes to come into effect
Stronger Security for High-Value UPI Transactions
To curb rising financial fraud and cyber scams, UPI platforms such as Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm will no longer rely solely on four- or six-digit PINs for high-value transactions. Users may now be required to complete biometric authentication through fingerprint or Face ID verification, device-based verification, or an additional two-factor authentication process before a transaction is approved.
Additionally, to prevent accidental transfers and payment fraud, UPI apps will now be required to display the recipient’s verified official name before a transaction is completed. The information will be pulled from a secure database, allowing users to confirm they are sending money to the intended recipient.
ATM Withdrawal Limits Extended to UPI Transactions
Banks will now count cardless cash withdrawals made through UPI at ATMs as part of customers’ monthly free withdrawal quota. Once the free limit is exceeded, additional withdrawal charges may apply, similar to regular debit card transactions.
Push Towards PNG Adoption
Authorities are also working to accelerate the transition from Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to Piped Natural Gas (PNG). For this, LPG users with PNG connections have been asked to surrender their cylinders within 30 days. The initiative aims to facilitate faster and more efficient adoption of PNG, which is expected to improve accessibility and convenience for consumers in eligible areas.
These changes are expected to strengthen financial security while improving service delivery for consumers.
