New Delhi, July 17(APAC Media): Google has delayed the launch of Gemini 3.5 Pro, its next flagship AI model, as it works to improve the model’s coding performance.
The model was expected to launch in June after Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai announced the timeline during Google I/O 2026. However, a Bloomberg report said the release has now been pushed back by several months. The report, which cited current and former Google employees, said the company updated Gemini 3.5 Pro’s training data to improve its coding capabilities, but the results reportedly fell short of internal expectations.
Google has not announced a new launch date. A company spokesperson said Gemini 3.5 Pro, an upgraded Gemini Flash model and other Google AI models are currently being tested with selected partners. Google also said it is working closely with the US government while continuing to develop AI models that deliver strong performance at a competitive cost.
The delay comes as OpenAI and Anthropic continue to expand their AI portfolios. OpenAI recently launched GPT-5.6, while Anthropic resumed wider access to its latest AI models after adding safeguards required under US export rules.
The latest development highlights how the competition in artificial intelligence, large language models (LLMs) and enterprise AI is shifting beyond new launches. Companies are now under pressure to deliver better reasoning, stronger coding performance and reliable AI tools while meeting growing regulatory requirements. Google’s decision to delay Gemini 3.5 Pro suggests the company is prioritising product quality over launching the model before it is fully ready.
