Noida, July 17 (APAC Media): The Central Bank of India on Friday reported a 13.26% year-on-year increase in net profit at ₹1,324 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026, supported by higher net interest income, robust credit growth and an improvement in asset quality.
The state-owned lender had posted a net profit of ₹1,169 crore in the first quarter of the previous financial year.
Net Interest Income (NII), the difference between interest earned and interest paid, increased 15.70% to ₹3,914 crore in Q1FY27 from ₹3,383 crore in the year-ago quarter.
The bank’s total global business grew 18.29% to ₹8,333,200 crore during the quarter, compared with ₹7,044,850 crore in Q1FY26. Total deposits rose 11.68% to ₹4,78,972 crore, while the CASA ratio stood at 46.61%.

“The quarterly performance reflects steady progress across key business parameters, with sustained growth in advances, improved asset quality and a stronger capital position,” the bank said.
Gross global advances increased 28.58% year-on-year to ₹354,348 crore from ₹275,595 crore. The credit-deposit ratio stood at 74.10%.
The bank witnessed healthy growth across its RAM (Retail, Agriculture and MSME) portfolio, which expanded 21.38% during the quarter. Retail advances grew 23.92% to ₹1,05,523 crore, agriculture advances increased 21.14% to ₹64,274 crore, and MSME advances rose 18.03% to ₹71,308 crore.
Asset Quality Improves
The Central Bank of India reported further improvement in asset quality, with gross non-performing assets (GNPA) declining to 2.60% as of June 30, 2026, from 3.13% a year earlier, an improvement of 53 basis points.
Net NPA remained stable at 0.49%, while the provision coverage ratio stood at 95.86%. Credit cost declined to 0.40% during the quarter from 0.68% in the corresponding period last year.
“The continued improvement in asset quality parameters demonstrates the bank’s focus on prudent risk management and strengthening the balance sheet,” the bank said.
Profitability and Capital Position
Operating profit during the quarter stood at ₹2,186 crore compared with ₹2,304 crore in the corresponding period last year.
The bank’s Return on Assets (ROA) stood at 1.00%, while Return on Equity (ROE) improved to 14.92% from 14.17%.
The Basel III Capital to Risk Weighted Assets Ratio (CRAR) strengthened to 18.28% as of June 30, 2026, compared with 17.66% a year ago. Tier-I capital stood at 16.54%.
The cost of deposits improved to 4.60% from 4.93% on an annualised basis.
Expands International Presence
The Central Bank of India said it has commenced operations through its IFSC Banking Unit at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, as part of its strategy to expand its international presence.
The unit has already canvassed business of ₹472.67 crore till the reporting date.
Branch Network and Financial Inclusion
The bank had 22,346 touch points across the country as of June 30, 2026, including 4,605 branches, 3,820 ATMs, 13,890 business correspondent outlets and 30 BC Maxx centres.
“The bank remains focused on accelerating growth through digital transformation, customer-centric initiatives and expansion of banking services across segments and geographies,” the Central Bank of India said.
Rural and semi-urban branches accounted for 66.31% of the total branch network.
Business per employee improved to ₹24.40 crore in Q1FY27 from ₹21.07 crore in the year-ago period.
