New Delhi, July 14(APAC Media): HCLTech has entered the full-stack AI market with a planned investment of up to ₹3,500 crore to build AI-focused data centers in India, expanding its presence beyond IT services into AI infrastructure.
The company said the investment could support AI data centers with the potential to scale up to 50MW of capacity. Along with the new infrastructure, HCLTech will combine its existing capabilities in AI data center design, DevOps, AI cloud operations and software services to offer end-to-end AI solutions for customers.
The announcement reflects the growing demand for AI-ready infrastructure as organizations require high-performance computing for AI model training and inference. India’s data center market is also expanding rapidly, supported by data localization requirements, cloud adoption and increasing deployment of GPU-based computing.
HCLTech CEO and Managing Director C Vijayakumar said the company sees an opportunity to address rising demand for AI-led services while strengthening its managed services portfolio through AI infrastructure. He added that the investment will help the company participate in a larger part of the AI value chain as enterprises shift towards AI-ready technology environments.
Industry estimates indicate India’s data center capacity could increase from the current 1.8GW to between 5GW and 7GW by 2030, with AI data centers expected to account for a significant share of future capacity. HCLTech’s latest investment signals that Indian IT companies are increasingly looking beyond software services to build AI infrastructure that supports enterprise AI adoption at scale.
