Raipur, July 14 (APAC Media): Chhattisgarh is set to get five new government medical colleges after receiving approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The expansion will add 250 MBBS seats to the state’s medical education system.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said the move will create more opportunities for medical aspirants. It will also strengthen healthcare services, particularly in remote and underserved regions.

Five Medical Colleges Get NMC Approval
The new medical colleges in Chhattisgarh will be established in Geedam in Dantewada, Kunkuri in Jashpur, Manendragarh, Janjgir-Champa and Kabirdham.
Each college will offer 50 MBBS seats, taking the total number of new seats to 250.
The government expects the expansion to bring medical education closer to students across different parts of the state.
Medical Education Push Reaches Remote Areas
Several of the new colleges will come up in tribal and remote regions.
Geedam is located in Dantewada, a district that has faced Naxal violence. Kunkuri is situated in the tribal belt of northern Chhattisgarh.
CM Sai said opening medical colleges in these regions reflects the government’s focus on taking development to underserved areas.
The institutions are also expected to improve access to trained doctors and specialist healthcare services.
Manendragarh College to Start with 50 MBBS Seats
The new government medical college in Manendragarh is expected to begin its academic session in 2026-27.
The college has received approval for 50 MBBS seats.
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board of the NMC has issued the Letter of Permission for the institution.
Health Minister and Manendragarh MLA Shyam Bihari Jaiswal said the approval fulfils a long-standing promise to the region.
Better Healthcare for Tribal and Rural Regions
The five new medical colleges are expected to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in rural and tribal areas of Chhattisgarh.
The institutions will increase the availability of qualified doctors and improve access to medical services.
Students from these regions will also get opportunities to pursue medical education closer to their homes.
The government expects the move to help bridge healthcare gaps in underserved districts.
Colleges to Support Research and Specialist Care
The new institutions will not be limited to medical education.
The government plans to develop them as centres for medical research, advanced healthcare and specialist treatment.
They will also help build a stronger local healthcare workforce.
CM Sai said the expansion will prepare a new generation of doctors while improving healthcare delivery across the state.

CM Vishnu Deo Sai thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister JP Nadda for supporting the expansion of medical education in the state.
