BMW X1 LWB Gets More Rear Seat Space
The X1 LWB is 116mm longer than the standard X1, with most of the increase going into the wheelbase. BMW has stretched the wheelbase by around 110mm, with the main focus being on improving rear-seat space. The SUV is locally assembled at BMW’s Chennai plant.
The India-spec X1 LWB gets M Sport styling as standard and retains the 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.7-inch curved infotainment display. It also gets a panoramic glass roof, 360-degree camera, wireless smartphone connectivity and a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
Petrol Engine And Features
Power comes from a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing around 154-156bhp and 230Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and sends power to the front wheels.
The extended body increases rear legroom by about 109mm. Boot capacity stands at 540 litres, rising to 1,700 litres with the rear seats folded. Safety and driver-assistance features include multiple airbags, collision warning, autonomous emergency braking and lane-assistance functions.
BMW i5 LWB Bookings Open
BMW has also started taking bookings for the i5 LWB First Edition in India. The long-wheelbase electric sedan is expected to join the India line-up shortly, with local assembly planned at BMW’s Chennai facility. The i5 LWB is expected to use the eDrive40L setup, with a 97kWh battery and rear-wheel drive.
The X1 LWB will compete in the premium compact SUV space alongside models such as the Mercedes-Benz GLA and Audi Q3, but its longer wheelbase gives BMW a different proposition in the segment.
