New Delhi, 21 August (APAC Media): India and Brazil have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation in telecommunications and information and communications technologies (ICTs).
This marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral collaboration in the digital sector.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting in Pune by Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Brazil’s Minister of Communications, Frederico de Siqueira Filho.
Focus on Connectivity, Cybersecurity, and Digital Infrastructure
According to the Department of Telecommunications, the MoU aims to advance digital innovation, strengthen digital infrastructure, and promote cooperation in emerging technologies.
The agreement provides a framework for structured cooperation across areas including universal connectivity, cybersecurity, digital public infrastructure, emerging technologies, capacity building, and the exchange of best practices.
Scindia said the partnership would bolster India-Brazil collaboration towards building a secure and inclusive digital future. The MoU will also facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise and encourage joint research, innovation, and the development of new-age communication technologies.
Both countries have also emphasised the importance of closer coordination in international telecommunications and technology forums.
Significance of the Partnership
The pact comes at a time when digital transformation, trusted technology, and inclusive connectivity are emerging as key areas of cooperation among BRICS nations.Â
The India-Brazil telecom partnership also forms part of the broader strategic relationship between the two countries, spanning trade and investment, agriculture, energy, science and technology, digital cooperation, and cybersecurity. This MoU is expected to further strengthen efforts to build an inclusive, secure, and resilient digital ecosystem in both countries.
