Noida, Aug 21 (APAC Media): Kolkata-based plywood major Greenply Industries is betting on new product launches and a significant expansion of its medium-density fibreboard (MDF) capacity to drive sustainable growth over the next two to three years, a senior company official said on Friday.
Chairman and Managing Director Rajesh Mittal made the comments on the sidelines of MATECIA 2026 in National Capital, where the company showcased its latest products and customer-focused initiatives.
Mittal said Greenply was looking at MDF differently, with the company viewing the material not just as a construction product but as an engineered performance system. MDF, made from fine wood fibres and adhesive, is widely used in indoor furniture and is considered a cost-effective alternative to hardwood plywood.

The company has expanded its portfolio with Club 700 premium plywood, Termivax, new XPro colours and its Never Before Teak’ proposition, Mittal said.
Greenply’s MDF business has also been witnessing strong growth. “Our MDF division continues to deliver strong performance, recording year-on-year growth of 35% to 40% in the last quarter,†said Gourav Khandelwal, chief operating officer, Greenply.
The company’s second MDF production line is under construction and is expected to begin commercial production in the first half of next year. The new line will add 650 cubic metres per day to the existing capacity of 1,000 CBM per day, resulting in a 60% increase in capacity.
“This 60% capacity expansion gives us a strong platform for sustained growth over the next two to three years,†Khandelwal added.
Greenply is also promoting its Gold plywood range through its ‘Double Assurance’ warranty, which the company says is designed to cover the full cost of rectifying an issue rather than only the product defect.
At MATECIA, the company used a Japanese sumo wrestling activation to demonstrate MDF’s load-bearing strength, while an AI-enabled interactive zone showcased its approach to technology-led product discovery.
Greenply also highlighted its sustainability initiatives, saying it has planted more than 90 million trees and is working towards a 100-million-tree mission through its ‘One Sheet, One Tree’ initiative.
