New Delhi, August 11 (APAC Media): The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of IAS Sunil Paliwal as Secretary, Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.Â
He will succeed IAS Pallavi Jain Govil, who has been appointed Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
Paliwal, a 1993-batch Tamil Nadu cadre officer, is currently serving as Chairman of the Inland Waterways Authority of India.
Strong Academic and Administrative Background
Paliwal holds a B.Tech in Computer Science from IIT Kanpur, an M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland, USA, and an MBA from the University of Birmingham, UK.
He began his administrative career as Sub-Collector in Cuddalore and subsequently served as Additional Collector in Nagapattinam. He later held the position of District Collector in the Tirunelveli, Theni, and Kanniyakumari districts.
Wide-Ranging Experience
During his tenure in the Tamil Nadu government, Paliwal handled several key portfolios. These included Managing Director of the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Tamil Nadu Road Development Company and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation.
He also served as Secretary, Commercial Taxes & Registration Department, Commissioner for Milk Production & Dairy Development and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Co-operative Milk Producers’ Federation (Aavin). In 2021, he was appointed Chairperson of the Chennai Port Trust.
In addition, Paliwal has served as Principal Secretary to the Government in the Higher Education and Labour & Employment departments.
His appointment to the Department of Youth Affairs brings decades of administrative experience across governance, infrastructure, education, employment, and public-sector management.
