‘Epson is leading India's print ecosystem from digital labels to textile innovation’ : Satyajeet Satpathy, Director - Sales & Marketing, Epson India

Summarize with:

The core Epson philosophy of Sho-Sho-Sei drives the design of its printers, projectors, robots and industrial solutions, enabling high performance while using less energy, fewer materials and less space. In an exclusive interaction, Satyajeet Satpathy, Director – Sales & Marketing, Epson India informs Rajneesh De, Group Editor, APAC Media & CXO Media that Epson also continue to invest in India through local manufacturing, an extensive service network of 400+ service centers and solutions tailored to the needs of the Indian market.

What solutions and services are currently available in Epson’s portfolio in India? What are the use cases for some of the key products?

Epson is a global technology leader from Japan with a long-standing heritage of innovation in printing, visual display and manufacturing technologies. Today, we offer one of the industry’s most comprehensive imaging technology portfolios in India and enjoy leadership positions across several of our key product categories, reflecting the trust customers place in Epson’s quality, reliability, innovation and commitment to sustainability. We are also leaders in robotics where we enable manufacturing automation and efficiency.

Our printing portfolio spans EcoTank home and office printers, Business Inkjet printers and Managed Print Services (MPS), Bill Printers and Dot Matrix printers, Photo Printers as well as commercial and industrial printing solutions including Digital Label Presses, On Demand Label printers, signage, CAD and Digital Textile Printers.

Our visual display portfolio includes projectors for homes, education, businesses and large venues, along with interactive flat panel displays that enable engaging classrooms and collaborative workplaces. We also offer a comprehensive range of photo and document scanners for businesses looking to digitise workflows and improve productivity. We are also industry leaders in SCARA and 6-axis industrial robots that help manufacturers enhance automation, precision and efficiency.

Each of these solutions is designed to address a specific customer need. From affordable, cartridge-free home printing and immersive home theatre experiences to enterprise printing, collaborative learning, industrial automation and digital production, Epson’s technologies help customers improve productivity, reduce operational complexity and support more sustainable business practices.

Epson believes that better technology is achieved by making products smaller, more accurate and more resource-efficient. “Sho-Sho-Sei” is a core Epson philosophy that has guided the company since its earliest days. Literally meaning “compact, precise and efficient,” this philosophy drives the design of Epson’s printers, projectors, robots and industrial solutions, enabling high performance while using less energy, fewer materials and less space. More than an engineering principle, Sho-Sho-Sei embodies Epson’s commitment to continuous innovation, sustainability and creating technology that delivers greater value with a lighter environmental footprint.

How is Epson supporting the growth and transformation of India’s digital label printing ecosystem?

India’s label printing industry is evolving rapidly as brands seek greater flexibility, faster turnaround times, shorter print runs and increased product customisation. At the same time, industries such as pharmaceuticals, chemicals and FMCG are looking for greater control over label production, particularly for applications involving variable data, regulatory compliance and confidential product information.

To address these evolving requirements, Epson continues to invest in advanced digital label printing technologies such as the Epson SurePress series. Designed for high-quality, on-demand label production, Epson SurePress Label Printers enables converters and brand owners to efficiently manage short run jobs, variable data printing, versioning and customised packaging while delivering exceptional print quality and colour consistency. It also supports applications where confidentiality is important, allowing businesses to produce labels on demand while maintaining greater control over sensitive product information.

We also actively engage with converters and brand owners to demonstrate new applications, evaluate different substrates and help customers identify opportunities where digital label printing can complement conventional production. Supporting this effort is our Digital Label Press Solution Center in Delhi, which provides a collaborative platform for customers to test and explore real-world applications and make informed technology investments.

How is on-demand label printing reshaping converter operations in India?

On demand label printing is helping converters become more agile and responsive to changing customer needs. Today, brand owners expect shorter turnaround times, multiple label variants, personalised packaging and the flexibility to print only what they need, when they need it.

Digital printing enables converters to meet these requirements efficiently by producing short-run jobs and variable data labels without the time and cost involved in conventional plate-making. This helps reduce inventory, minimise waste and improve overall productivity.

At Epson, we are supporting this shift through our SurePress Digital Label Press and ColorWorks colour label printers, enabling businesses to produce high-quality labels with greater speed, flexibility and consistency.

Importantly, digital printing is not replacing conventional printing, it is complementing it. While conventional presses continue to be ideal for long production runs, digital printing opens up new opportunities for customised, on-demand applications, helping converters expand their capabilities and create new revenue streams.

How are converters balancing conventional and digital workflows?

Today, most converters are no longer choosing between conventional and digital printing, they are using both, depending on the application. Rather than viewing them as competing technologies, they are integrating them to build more agile, flexible and responsive production environments.

Digital printing brings the flexibility to handle shorter turnaround times, multiple label variants, variable data, personalisation and on-demand production, while conventional printing continues to deliver efficiencies for high-volume, repeat jobs. Together, they enable converters to respond more effectively to changing customer requirements while optimising productivity and resource utilisation.

At Epson, our SurePress Digital Label Press solutions are designed to complement conventional production, helping converters expand their capabilities, improve operational flexibility and unlock new business opportunity.

How is Epson supporting the growth of India’s digital textile printing ecosystem?

India’s textile industry is evolving rapidly as manufacturers look to reduce lead times, offer greater design flexibility and adopt more sustainable production methods. At the same time, global brands are increasingly demanding shorter production runs, faster turnaround times and higher levels of customisation, creating new opportunities for digital textile printing.

To address these changing requirements, Epson continues to invest in advanced digital textile printing technologies such as the Monna Lisa series. Designed for industrial-scale textile production, Monna Lisa enables manufacturers to deliver exceptional print quality, colour consistency and production efficiency across a wide range of fabrics, while supporting more sustainable manufacturing through reduced water consumption, waste and inventory.

Beyond technology, Epson remains committed to helping the industry accelerate the adoption of digital textile printing. As part of this commitment, we have established the Textile Solution Center in Bengaluru, where customers can explore applications, evaluate fabrics and experience our technologies in real production environments before making investment decisions.

What are the key pillars of Epson’s GTM strategy in India?

We are focused on creating long-term value for customers rather than simply selling products. As customer requirements continue to evolve, our focus is on delivering complete solutions backed by strong technology, local expertise and reliable support.

A key pillar of our strategy is our strong network of channel partners and system integrators, who work closely with customers to understand their business needs and deliver the right solutions backed by consistent sales, implementation and after-sales support across the country. This is complemented by our dedicated Experience and Solution Centres, where customers can evaluate technologies, explore real-world applications and gain the confidence to choose solutions that best meet their business requirements.

We also continue to invest in India through local manufacturing, an extensive service network of 400+ service centers and solutions tailored to the needs of the Indian market. Combined with our focus on innovation and sustainability, this enables us to support customers across consumer, business, commercial and industrial segments while building long-term partnerships.

What is the structure of Epson’s channel partner network in India?

Epson has built a strong multi-tier channel ecosystem that supports our diverse portfolio of printing, visual display and automation solutions across India.

At the national level, we work with our national distribution partners, supported by a network of regional distributors who ensure product availability and market reach across the country. This is further strengthened by an extensive network of 4000+ channel partners, specialised system integrators and solution partners who help customers identify, implement and support the right Epson solutions across our printing, projectors, interactive displays, scanners, POS printers and industrial robotics portfolio.

Complementing this is Epson’s nationwide service infrastructure, with more than 400 authorised service centres across India. Together, this ecosystem enables us to deliver a consistent customer experience, from product selection and solution design to implementation and after-sales support, while ensuring customers receive the expertise best suited to their specific business requirements.

What new products and solutions are expected to be marketed in the next few quarters?

Innovation remains central to Epson’s growth strategy, and customers can expect to see continued enhancements across our portfolio. We have recently refreshed our range of home and office printers, revamped our signage printing portfolio and introduced new models in the digital textile printing segment. Going forward, we will continue strengthening our portfolio across consumer, business, commercial and industrial segments to address the evolving needs of our customers.

Our focus will remain on delivering technologies that improve productivity, simplify workflows, reduce operational costs and support more sustainable business practices. As customer expectations continue to evolve, Epson will remain committed to bringing innovative solutions that help businesses and consumers work smarter, create better experiences and unlock new opportunities.
