New Delhi, August 27(APAC Media): OpenAI has appointed former Uber India and South Asia President Prabhjeet Singh as its Managing Director for India, putting him in charge of the company’s business and operations in the country.
Singh will oversee OpenAI’s consumer and enterprise business, partnerships, regulatory engagement and overall operations. He will report to Kiran Mani, Managing Director for Asia Pacific. OpenAI had earlier confirmed that Singh would join the company in September.
The appointment comes as OpenAI steps up its focus on India, where the company is expanding its presence across consumers, businesses and the wider AI ecosystem. OpenAI opened its first India office in New Delhi in 2025 and has also been expanding its partnerships and hiring in the country.
Singh confirmed the move in a LinkedIn post, saying he had joined OpenAI to lead its India business after spending time with the team in San Francisco. He said his focus would include building teams, scaling businesses and helping shape how AI develops in India.
At Uber, Singh spent more than a decade and most recently served as President of Uber India and South Asia. He previously worked with McKinsey & Company and Lehman Brothers. His move to OpenAI brings a business and operations background to the company’s India leadership at a time when AI adoption and competition are expanding rapidly.
