Guwahati, September 11 (APAC Media): PepsiCo India has inaugurated a Rs 778 crore food manufacturing plant in Nalbari, Assam, marking a significant investment in the state’s industrial and agricultural sectors.
Spread across 44.2 acres, the facility will strengthen Assam’s potato value chain, with PepsiCo set to source around 50,000 tonnes of potatoes annually from the state for Lay’s production. The company said the plant will support around 5,000 local farmers by providing an assured market.
The facility is expected to create employment for around 500 people, with more than 75% of its workforce comprising women. PepsiCo will also support farmers through technology, quality seeds and affordable machinery.
The plant is expected to generate demand for around 60,000 tonnes of cold storage capacity over the coming years, while also creating opportunities for local ancillary industries such as packaging.
The Assam Government has also partnered with the Assam Skill Development Mission and the Directorate of Employment and Craftsman Training to strengthen women’s employability in the region.
PepsiCo said the investment reflects its confidence in Assam’s business environment and will contribute to the state’s industrial growth while strengthening local agricultural linkages.
