Noida, Oct 21 (APAC Media): Vishal Mega Mart on Wednesday reported a 3.7 per cent year-on-year increase in net profit to Rs 157.9 crore in the second quarter of FY27, up from Rs 152.3 crore in the corresponding period last year, according to a regulatory filing.
Shares of Vishal Mega Mart tumbled 4.5 per cent to Rs 90.10 on the BSE, while the stock fell nearly 5 per cent to hit a 52-week low of Rs 90 per share on the NSE.
Vishal Mega Mart reported a 14 per cent year-on-year growth in revenue from operations to Rs 3,398.5 crore in the quarter.
Same-store sales growth (SSSG) stood at 5.4 per cent during the quarter. The company said the shift in festive buying from the second quarter to the third quarter impacted SSSG by 3-4 percentage points. Adjusting for this shift, SSSG would have been around 9 per cent.
Operating EBITDA, before accounting for Ind AS 116 and employee stock option (ESOP) charges, rose 3.7 per cent year-on-year to Rs 262.2 crore.
However, the operating EBITDA margin declined to 7.7 per cent from 8.5 per cent a year ago, primarily due to operating deleverage resulting from the shift in festive demand.
Adjusted profit after tax (PAT), excluding ESOP charges, increased 6.4 per cent year-on-year to Rs 172 crore. The adjusted PAT margin stood at 5.1 per cent, compared with 5.4 per cent in the year-ago period.
The company added 26 gross stores during the quarter, taking its net store additions to 25.
“We delivered another strong quarter, supported by the strength of our own-brand offerings, our customer-first approach and disciplined execution. Demand conditions remained steady despite renewed inflationary pressures across key raw material categories and an uneven monsoon. Our differentiated merchandise, compelling price positioning and understanding of customer needs continued to resonate with shoppers, reinforcing the resilience of our business,” said Gunender Kapur, Founder, CEO.
As of September 30, 2026, Vishal Mega Mart operated 844 stores across 582 cities, covering a total retail area of around 1.41 crore square feet, the company said.
For the first half of FY27, apparel accounted for 44.1 per cent of revenue, while general merchandise and fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) contributed 28.4 per cent and 27.3 per cent, respectively.
The company said its own brands accounted for 73.9 per cent of revenue during the first half of FY27. It had a consumer base of around 18.1 crore as of September 30, 2026.
The company caters to India’s young, middle-income consumers by offering fashion, general merchandise and FMCG products at affordable prices through its portfolio of in-house and third-party brands. In addition to its retail network, it serves customers through its mobile application and website.
