The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed Odisha cadre IAS officer Rajesh Verma as the secretary to President Droupadi Murmu. Currently, he was serving as the secretary of the Union ministry of corporate affairs.
Hailing from the Sawai Madhopur district in Rajasthan, Verma who is an electrical engineering graduate, will be replacing Kapil Dev Tripathi in his new assignment. The 1987-batch IAS officer proceeded for central deputation in July 2019. Before going to the Centre, he had served as the principal secretary to chief minister Naveen Patnaik for two years from January 2017.
During his stint with the state government, Verma has served in some high-profile key positions in departments like steel and mines, school and mass education, agriculture, and energy.
