Banda: In a major decision, 2010-batch UP Cadre IAS Officer Durga Shakti Nagpal has been appointed District Magistrate of Banda. Normally, an IAS officers gets charge of a district after four to five years in the civil services. However, it took Ms Nagpal almost 13 years to get the coveted posting. She was working as a Special Secretary in Medical Education Department in the Uttar Pradesh government. The state government on Saturday evening issued transfer orders of four other IAS officers.
Nagpal had shot into the limelight on a national level in July 2013 when working as SDM in Greater Noida she took on the sand mining mafia and got some illegal encroachments demolished.
A native of Delhi Nagpal had been allocated Punjab cadre upon completion of her training. She got her cadre changed to UP after marrying fellow 2011-batch IAS officer Abhish Singh, who was serving in the UP cadre. She got her first posting as SDM, Greater Noida where she ran into rough weather.
Her suspension was opposed by the IAS Officers Association and the issue was resolved after the intervention of the then PMO under Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Her suspension was revoked on September 26, 2013. But, after serving the UP Government for one year, she was shifted to the Centre on deputation.
She returned from Central deputation on March 24, 2021, and was appointed by the current UP government as Special Secretary in the Medical Education department.
