Bhopal: The amalgamation of education and technology is crucial for the future of the coming generation of youth. The global pace of technological advancements is challenging to keep up with, but Manu Srivastava, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Technical Education, Skill Development and Employment, Government of Madhya Pradesh is a hopeful one.
At the 4th APAC India Digital Empowerment Meet and Awards, held on August 11 and 12, in Bhopal, he gave us an insight into the ways in which the government is helping students.
“There is a huge divide in the way technical education is happening and, in the pace, technology is evolving. There is also a huge disparity between govt engineering colleges & private engineering colleges when it comes to placement. In MP, we are trying to change that scenario by starting online certification courses interwoven with curriculum at subsidised cost offered by the government,” he said.
Srivastava talked about the difference in the placement of students from private colleges as compared to government colleges and pointed out that the former starts preparing students for jobs from the first day itself, which gives them an advantage when it comes to landing jobs.
The Department of Technical Education, Skill Development and Employment, Government of Madhya Pradesh has a very clear mission and it is to “upgrade skills through specified skills, knowledge and recognised national and international qualifications.”
Skill development of the youth of Madhya Pradesh aims for:
1. To foster the social and economic development of our state by offering top-notch technical education and vocational training.
2. To provide the youth of our state with world-class training and technical education opportunities that align with evolving industry demands.
3. To uphold rigorous quality standards in all Technical Education Institutions, including those in the private sector.
4. To attract private investments into the realm of Technical and Vocational Education, bolstering our educational offerings and resources.
NASSCOM
Srivastava also touches upon the subject of a collaboration between the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) and the Government of India, where students are provided certificate courses at a subsidised rate.
He said that the Government of India has directed NASSCOM to offer certification of courses for Rs 600 each, which is further subsidised by the government by 75 per cent. This means students of government colleges would have to pay no more than Rs 150 to attain certificates in courses that would better their chances of getting a job.
The Government of Madhya Pradesh has also developed relations with organisations like IIT Jodhpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Indore, Google and Apple, on the same principles, that is to digitally empower the youth that are studying technology.
