New Delhi: Koppu Sadashiv Murthy has officially taken charge as the Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of the Public Sector Engineering and Manufacturing Enterprise at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).
At 56 years old, Murthy was serving as the Executive Director of the Corporate Operations Management group at BHEL. He also held the additional responsibility as the Chairman and Managing Director at Bharat Pumps and Compressors Limited (BPCL).
Murthy joined BHEL in 1989 as an Electrical Engineering graduate from Bhopal University. His career spans 34 years with hands-on experience in various manufacturing units, including Hyderabad, Bhopal, Jhansi, and Varanasi. He holds an MBA in Finance.
During his tenure as the Head of Corporate Operations Management in Delhi, he played a pivotal role in steering the company back to profitability in the fiscal years 2022-23 and 2021-22, following two years of losses. His leadership fostered a project-centric culture within BHEL.
While heading BHEL’s Varanasi manufacturing unit, Murthy successfully led the portfolio, even in the face of challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a partial factory closure. Nevertheless, his efforts in the fiscal year 2020-21, brought a Profit Before Tax of over 25% of revenue, historically low inventory levels, and a cash surplus.
As the CMD of BPCL he was able to build robust stakeholder relationships, which resulted in monetisation of assets amounting to Rs. 80 Crore. Furthermore, he resolved long-pending payment and contractual issues with customers, contractors, and suppliers, underscoring his acumen in dispute resolution and stakeholder management.
