Bhopal: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced Ujjain South MLA Mohan Yadav as the chief minister-elect for Madhya Pradesh. The 58-year-old leader emerged as the chosen candidate during a BJP legislative party meeting at the party headquarters in Bhopal.
Mohan Yadav, with backing from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, previously served as the higher education minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.
Yadav’s selection as the chief minister-elect follows the BJP’s triumph in the Madhya Pradesh assembly election, where the party secured 163 out of 230 seats.
This election marked the first time in two decades that the BJP contested without a chief ministerial face. Prime Minister Narendra Modi actively campaigned in the state, conducting at least 14 rallies.
Upon assuming office, Yadav will become the fifth BJP chief minister in Madhya Pradesh, succeeding Sunderlal Patwa, Uma Bharti, Babulal Gaur, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Among them, Chouhan holds the record for serving as the Chief Minister for over 16 years.
