Synology experienced 20% market growth last year, driven mainly by the increasing demand from SMBs and enterprises. The surge in demand for Synology’s backup solutions can be attributed to India’s emergence as a prominent data center hub in the region. Russell Chen, Country Manager, Synology, India & SAARC explains this to APAC News Network about the dynamics of this progress in India.
What are the three critical phases of data protection process leveraging Synology solutions?
Prevention for ransomware attacks
Secure SignIn is a secure login framework that powers every Synology NAS. This feature verifies sign-ins using approved sign-ins, verification codes (OTP), and hardware security keys. Enterprises can subsequently significantly reduce the risk of unauthorized access and potential ransomware attacks.
Centralized data protection alleviating deployment burdens:
Active Backup for Business covers virtualized environments, physical servers, file servers, and PCs. CISOs can efficiently deploy and manage data protection strategies through a centralized admin console, ensuring backup coverage and continuity of operations.
Key to effective backup: Comprehensive, streamlined data recovery:
Snapshot Replication efficiently streamlines data recovery, providing robust backup capabilities against threats like accidental deletion and viruses. IT managers can configure scheduled snapshots and retention settings, ensuring efficient data management and recovery, even in scenarios where ransomware attacks occur.
What is the GTM strategy followed by Synology in India in terms of the channel structure as well as after sales support and services network?
We collaborate with three major distributors, namely EBM, Tech Data, and Supertron, alongside various sub-distributors and system integration partners here in India.
For post-sales support, customers can raise a support ticket directly with us at no additional charge, and our Headquarters will handle it promptly. Alternatively, customers have the option to contact our local channel partners for direct support.
Which are the verticals in India that you are witnessing maximum traction and what are their brief use cases? Which are some of your marquee customers in India?
Our solutions are widely utilized across various sectors including manufacturing, PSUs, education, healthcare, and media and entertainment. Customers in these industries often leverage our solutions as their private file servers, benefiting from the robustness and reliability they offer.
Additionally, many of them take advantage of our backup solution software for enhanced data protection and security purposes. For instance, we assisted a prominent sports apparel brand in India by backing up hundreds of endpoints, including PCs and laptops, securely storing over hundreds of terabytes of data.
How would you measure the acceptance of Synology solutions in the governance, manufacturing and healthcare sectors in India?
Synology products, all manufactured in Taiwan, offer secure operating system and environment, making them highly esteemed by these industries across India. We are actively participating in government tenders and now registered in the GeM portal too and winning projects in the governance sector too.
How does competitive pricing helping you gain a foothold in the Indian SMB market?
Unlike many enterprise-level cloud service providers that primarily charge via recurring subscriptions, and other on-premise server providers typically charge licensing fees along with device costs, Synology offers a different approach. Customers purchase our desktop or rackmount NAS systems and drives, gaining access to a suite of data management, backup, productivity, and other useful software solutions—all included with their initial purchase. This provides them with an on-premises private cloud solution that offers control and security over their data.
Our solutions are designed to be scalable, allowing customers to easily expand their data capacity by purchasing additional drives and extension units as their data grows alongside their business. This cost-effective and scalable approach to data management makes Synology an ideal choice for SMBs in India anticipating future data growth in line with technological advancements and the evolving IT landscape.
While Synology focuses so much on manufacturing, many organizations face security challenges in their OT production environments. How can Synology solutions help there?
Synology can support the manufacturing industry by integrating existing machines, centralizing datasets, and utilizing our data management & protection tools, along with our cybersecurity protection, to assist enterprises in successfully transforming and achieving business resilience.
What are going to be the key focus areas in the Synology roadmap in India in the next few quarters?
Synology maintains a strong position in the SMB storage market, and as we expand our business, we aim to not only uphold this position but also extend our reach into the enterprise sectors.
We recently introduced the HD6500, capable of holding up to 4.8 Petabytes of data. This high-density storage server is perfectly suited for enterprise use, offering extensive data management capabilities and robust backup solutions. Additionally, we have plans to release more enterprise-level products in India, as we continue to address the evolving needs of businesses in this market.
Synology is dedicated to developing solutions for the challenges encountered by today’s enterprises, such as the exponential growth of AI data and the implementation of backup policies. We are committed to creating a range of product lines that enhance the data resilience of enterprises.
