New Delhi: The Indian Army and the R&D organization of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE), Indore’s Mhow.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in advancing ‘Aatmanirbharta’ (self-reliance) in defence technology through indigenous innovation.
The collaboration aims to foster research and development (R&D) in cutting-edge and futuristic domains, including quantum computing, cybersecurity, wireless communication, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), digital twin technology, and sensory augmentation.
By integrating C-DAC’s advanced R&D capabilities with MCTE’s operational expertise, the CoE will focus on creating field-ready prototypes tailored to meet the operational needs of the Indian Army.
Hub for Defence Innovation
The CoE at MCTE will serve as a hub for innovation, knowledge-sharing, and skill development. It will focus on:
- Addressing critical military challenges through collaborative R&D.
- Developing and testing advanced prototypes in key technology areas.
- Organizing workshops, seminars, and training programs to upskill personnel.
Bhuvnesh Kumar, Additional Secretary, MeitY, praised the initiative, noting that it will drive applied research and strengthen collaboration between MCTE, C-DAC, and other MeitY institutions.
Lt Gen K H Gawas, Commandant of MCTE, highlighted the transformative potential of the partnership, stating: “I am confident that this partnership will serve as a beacon for future collaborations, driving advancements that are critical to national defence and self-reliance.”
Meanwhile, Dr E. Magesh, Director General of C-DAC, expressed confidence that the initiative would advance India’s strategic capabilities, saying: “This partnership will provide an unparalleled opportunity to apply advanced computing technologies to critical defence challenges, furthering our mission to strengthen India’s strategic capabilities through innovation.”
A Leap Toward Self-Reliance
The establishment of this CoE underscores the Indian Army’s commitment to integrating futuristic technologies and strengthening indigenous capabilities. As a pioneering effort, the CoE is expected to shape the future of defence technology in India, driving both innovation and self-reliance in critical military domains.
