New Delhi: The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has notified the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025, under the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016.
This amendment expands the scope of Aadhaar authentication, allowing both government and private entities to provide various services in the public interest, promoting transparency, innovation, and inclusivity.
Enhancing Ease of Living with Aadhaar Authentication
The amended rules aim to facilitate Aadhaar authentication for multiple sectors, including e-commerce, travel, tourism, hospitality, and healthcare. By enabling seamless access to these services, the amendment seeks to improve the ease of living and livelihood for people. This move ensures a secure and efficient mechanism for individuals to authenticate their identity while accessing essential services.
With Aadhaar authentication now extended to non-government entities, businesses can leverage the digital identity framework to provide trusted services, fostering innovation and knowledge dissemination. This will not only streamline service delivery but also enhance trust and security in digital transactions.
Simplified Approval Process for Aadhaar Authentication
Entities seeking Aadhaar authentication must submit their application detailing the intended use to the relevant ministry or department of the Central or State Government. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will assess these applications, and MeitY will grant approvals based on UIDAI’s recommendations. Following this, the respective government ministry or department will notify the entity for Aadhaar usage.
This amendment is expected to drive digital transformation, enabling efficient Aadhaar-enabled services while fostering collaboration between the government and private sector entities. The initiative is expected to enhance governance, boost digital solutions, and provide citizens with seamless access to various public and private services.
