Kolkata: The Election Commission has appointed IAS Manoj Kumar Agarwal as the Chief Election Officer of West Bengal.
The West Bengal Vidhan Sabha elections in 2026 will be organized now under the supervision of this 1990 West Bengal cadre IAS officer.
Currently, Dibyendu Das is performing the role of West Bengal CEO in an acting capacity since the retirement of the previous CEO, Arij Aftab, in December 2024.
Aftab has been the West Bengal CEO since 2017 and has supervised the Lok Sabha elections in 2019 and 2024 and the 2021 Vidhan Sabha election.
Currently, Agarwal is the Additional Secretary in the Fire and Emergency Services department. He has previously served in different capacities, including North Bengal development secretary, Additional Secretary, Forests, as well as Additional Secretary Disaster Management.
