Aizawl: The Mizoram government has recently introduced the Special Voluntary Retirement Scheme across the state.
Under this scheme, any employee who is no longer able to execute official duties due to health, domestic or any other debilitating issues can apply for voluntary pension.
This will include all regular government employees governed by CCS (Pension) Rules, 1972 who have not rendered a minimum 20 years of service. In addition, employees governed by the Mizoram New Defined Contributory System, 2010 will also come under the ambit of this scheme.
According to Mizoram CM Lalduhoma, while this scheme gives the impacted employees an avenue to an honourable exit, it also tackles the age-long menace of government employees hiring proxies prevalent in the state.
As per current statistics, 3365 government employees from 44 departments had hired proxies as substitutes for them in working. While more than 2000 of them cited health issues, 703 employees were affected by domestic problems.
In June 2024, the government directed all employees who had hired proxies to report at their posting locations within 45 days. Once this was confirmed, the scheme notification came out.
