Mumbai: Uber is set to add 1,000 electric vehicles (EVs) to its fleet in India by 2026 through a partnership with Refex Green Mobility. The move is part of Uber’s broader strategy to expand electric ride-hailing services and support India’s transition to cleaner transportation.
Deployment Across Major Cities
The EVs will be introduced in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai, with Refex Green Mobility, a subsidiary of Refex Industries, supplying the vehicles under its Refex eVeelz brand. The collaboration is expected to accelerate the adoption of electric four-wheelers in urban areas, catering to the rising demand for sustainable mobility solutions.
Uber’s Electrification Push
Uber has been expanding its EV offerings in India, including the rollout of Uber Green in cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Kolkata. Uber Green allows passengers to book all-electric, zero tailpipe emission vehicles through the app. The latest partnership with Refex eVeelz aligns with Uber’s global goal of achieving 100% emission-free rides by 2040.
Aditya Kapoor, Head of Supply and Electrification at Uber India and South Asia, emphasized the company’s focus on growing EV adoption, stating that partnerships like these are crucial in bringing more electric ride options to Indian cities.
Refex Green Mobility’s Role
Refex Green Mobility, which operates in both B2B and B2C electric vehicle segments, already has a fleet of around 1,300 company-owned EVs. The company aims to expand its footprint in urban mobility by working with Uber to deploy more electric four-wheelers.
Sachin Navtosh Jha, Chief of Staff at Refex Group, highlighted the environmental benefits of scaling up EV deployments and the role such initiatives play in India’s sustainability goals.
Electric Mobility Expansion in India
With India pushing for greater EV adoption through policy incentives and infrastructure expansion, ride-hailing services are emerging as a key driver of the shift. The partnership between Uber and Refex Green Mobility is expected to contribute to this transition by making electric rides more accessible in multiple cities.
