Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation received 91 complaints on WhatsApp on the first day of the week-long campaign to spot vulnerable garbage accumulation points across the city.
APAC Media has previously reported on this KMC campaign leveraging WhatsApp, Google Forms and a dashboard prior to World Environment Day.
Most complaints of garbage accumulation came from Borough seven and Borough 10 of KMC.
Borough seven covers Park Street, Maidan, Tangra, Topsia and Tiljala. Borough 10 covers areas like parts of Taratala, New Alipore, Jodhpur Park, Tollygunge and Jadavpur.
The KMC team worked till 8 pm yesterday to resolve as many complaints as possible. The ones that were still not resolved yesterday would be prioritised today morning.
Citizens were registering complaints about garbage on the WhatsApp number 9073367883.
A dedicated control room has been set up to respond to such complaints. This will remain functional from 6 am to 6 pm till 3 June. There are three teams in the control room.
One receives the complaints and escalates them to the brought teams. The second team coordinates with the borough to ensure the garbage is removed. The third team sends a message to the complainant after the garbage is removed, seeking feedback.
The objective behind this week-long campaign was to identify spots where people tend to throw garbage and are not cleaned daily. It also raises awareness of the need to maintain a clean city and reduce the amount of garbage disposed of outdoors.
