Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation is starting a garbage cleaning drive based on WhatsApp complaints for one week before World Environment Day.
Once a complaint is made via WhatsApp, the garbage will be cleaned within four hours. The campaign by KMC will start from 28 May and continue till 3 June.
According to KMC, the main aim of this drive is to identify the dirty garbage-filled areas in the city. And subsequently register these sites on a ward basis and clean.
A WhatsApp number (9073367883) will accept all the complaints. All complaints will be verified on a dashboard using real-time Google Forms.
Citizens are requested to click photos and videos of garbage in any of the 144 wards and send them on WhatsApp along with the exact name and address.
The Central Office of KMC will send the necessary instructions to the relevant borough within two hours. The cleaning will be done in another two hours and feedback will be taken. The whole procedure will be logged in KMC’s digital system and a ticket will be generated.
The whole work will happen from 6 am to 6 pm. According to Mayor Firhad Hakim, depending on the response report after one week, it will be decided whether to continue with this.
