Aizawl: Mizoram witnessed a significant jump in tourist arrivals during the first 11 months of FY 2024-25 (April 2024 to February 2025) compared to the previous fiscal year.
As per the Mizoram Tourism Department, a total of 4,69,753 tourists visited Mizoram till this February. This translates into a 114.29 per cent increase from 2,19,114 arrivals in 2023-24.
Out of this 4,64,742 tourists were domestic, while 5011 international visitors came from 80 countries, including the US, UK, China, Japan and Germany.
Aizawl district recorded the highest number of tourists, including 2,62,224 domestic and 4097 foreign tourists.
Kolasib district, bordering Assam, attracted 1,05,593 tourists, including 25 international guests.
The revenue generated from tourism showed a slight dip in FY 2024-25, from Rs 3.57 crore in the previous fiscal to Rs 3.27 crore. Though the March figures, which are yet to be stabilised, could make up this discrepancy.
Mizoram currently boasts 197 identified tourist destinations and 78 tourist lodges or facilities. 39 of these are run by the department, while the rest are outsourced to private operators.
Additionally, the tourism industry has expanded with 101 registered hotels, 125 homestays, 76 tour operators, 95 tour guides and 31 catering units operating across the state.
