Kohima: The Mon District Police of Nagaland has launched the WhatsApp-based ‘Youth Migration Monitoring & Safety’ program.
Also known as “Mon Migration Trail”, this initiative is aimed at safeguarding the welfare of young citizens migrating out of the state for education or employment.
The program in Nagaland will collect and maintain updated records of migrants. The SP Office will securely store all info like destination, occupation and contact person.
It will involve close coordination with village councils, churches and community organisations to build a safety network.
A dedicated Nagaland police team will stay in touch with the migrants and intervene whenever necessary. A WhatsApp-based registration system has been introduced for ease of access.
Migrants can simply text ‘Hi’ to 6009596367 and complete the simple registration steps. There is no need to navigate through an app.
The initiative focuses on ensuring justice, dignity and community accountability. This is more than just a rescue mechanism and will allow swift and effective intervention in case of distress or abuse.
Community leaders from the Konyak Union (KU), Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) and Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) pledged their full support to the program.
