Kolkata: A total of 30,918 villages in West Bengal have already been declared as Open Defecation Free (ODF).
These have been earmarked and announced as ODF Plus Model Villages. However, it has become a challenge to preserve and maintain the infrastructure built by the State government for these model villages.
Under the Nirmal Bangla Mission, the West Bengal state government have formed different district and block-level committees to preserve this infrastructure.
The district-level committee will be led by the Additional DM in charge of the Nirmal Bangla project.
It will also comprise six other officials, including the District Nodal Officer and the District Panchayat and Rural Development Officer.
The block level committee will consist of five officials, including the BDO, the Joint BDO and the Block Engineer.
Instructions to the district administration, as well as combined reports of the block committee and district committee, need to be sent to the Panchayat department by the 15th of every month.
