Kolkata: The West Bengal government has announced a grant of Rs 1.10 lakh for every Durga Puja organiser in Bengal.
This nearly Rs 5 crore grant aims to further boost the number of jobs and business opportunities the festival generates.
Apart from the Rs 1.10 lakh cash grant, there would be an 80 per cent waiver on electricity power bills. Besides, there will be a complete exemption from fees for fire and other licenses.
The grant amount was Rs 85,000 last year. Even the power bill waiver was 75 per cent.
There are 45,000 clubs that organise Durga Puja across Bengal. And the whole ecosystem generates a number of jobs and business opportunities.
The Durga Puja begins with Sashthi on 28 September. Immersions will happen between 2 and 4 October. The Durga Puja carnival on Red Road will happen on 5 October.
