Greater Noida: Fortis Hospital has unveiled a new Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Greater Noida.
The facility is equipped with advanced life-support technology to cater to children aged one month to 18 years. Cricketer Bhuvneshwar Kumar inaugurated the unit.
The newly launched PICU is among the largest in the region, featuring a 10-bed setup, including isolation rooms for infection control. It is designed to manage critically ill children with complex medical conditions. The unit is equipped with pediatric ventilators, noninvasive ventilators, high-frequency ventilators, cardiac and neurological monitoring systems, arterial and central line support, hemodialysis, and ECMO support.
According to Dr. Kushagra Gupta, Consultant, Paediatrics, Fortis Greater Noida, the PICU is a specialised ICU created exclusively for children. Unlike adult ICUs, it addresses the unique nature of pediatric illnesses and minimises the risk of infection that compromises children’s safety. With rising urbanisation and climatic changes, there has been a significant increase in pediatric illnesses in the region, including dengue, malaria, hepatitis A, respiratory infections, and allergy-related asthma. Dr. Gupta emphasised that timely access to a dedicated PICU is critical for effective and safe treatment.
Mohit Singh, Zonal Director, Fortis Healthcare, stated that the launch reflects Fortis’s commitment to providing the highest standard of pediatric care in Greater Noida. He noted that the focus is not only on saving lives but on doing so with empathy, precision, and excellence.
Siddharth Nigam, Facility Director, Fortis Greater Noida, highlighted that the PICU is supported by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors available round-the-clock, along with strong critical care backup and advanced infrastructure. The combination of expertise and technology, he said, is expected to ensure better treatment outcomes for children with complex conditions.
